The world has become more stressful.
World
Health Organization predicts burn out syndrome to become a global pandemic in
the next decade. Big workloads, stressful environment, being available 24/7 and
living up to the ideals of being a good partner, parent etc. seems to be
important contributors. During a day
of continuous input and output, when do we get the time to process it?
We tend to need some time for
ourselves, while the trend seems to be putting more people in open offices
exposed to each other. Do we get the time to lower our shoulders, when we’re
always in others company? Who haven’t spent some extra minutes in the rest room
just enjoying some time alone?
Siesta offers an accessible
place to get some personal space and a good place to rest. In my contribution
I’ve tried to facilitate for meditation, praying and power napping which are good
old existing ways of handling stress and being able to “recharge” in a hectic
daily life. Big companies such as Google are already facilitating these
behaviors for their workers. Studies conducted by NASA and Harvard say a nap
can increase productivity by up to 34 percent.
My solution uses the central space
not being used during daytime. A nightclub is a good example of such a place. Siesta
could contribute as an extra income for the nightclub owner as well as being a
good way of improving our daily lives.
